But why? Aren't they allowed to take at least a day or two off for such a reason? After all, it is the Queen's birhtday...

theyve already attended the formal birthday for her majesty so i dont see how this would be such a big deal its not like they havent already celebrated it with her. and as someone already said, army duty is important.

They were both there for the party in April, and I assume will both be there for TTC- I'm sure the Queen understands- she's been surrounded by the milatary her whole life.

They will be allowed to take leave from the army, but not during their training. William is still in training at Sandhurst and Harry is still in his regimental training, so my assumption is that neither will be able to take any leave (other then what is scheduled for them) until they both complete their training. That is how it is in the US military, I assume the British military follows a similar pattern.

It's called growing up and taking your responsibilities seriously. Time to learn how to be a man (or men)

Apparently her birthday takes a year to celebrate-- between planning, partying, trooping and cruising. They're either in the army or not. I doubt the lads in their charge as officers would appreciate it when they leave them in the trenches to go to a ball or a soccer game.

Wills and Harry as also going to a thanksgiving service tomorrow in London at St Pauls. So that's more time off from training.

I don't think it's about "letting"
I think that if it is something that they MUST do (which I do believe the thanksgiving ceremony was an obligation that trumps the military) then they need to attend, but for a frufru cruise? No special treatment please.
