So, two of the four patronages are sports related. Must be hard for a 24 year old male to have to sit at the World Cup. The third, Tusk, aka "Save the Elephants, if not the Children," is also a "soft" pick as he gets to see Jecca and presumably go to Africa to see the very good work they are doing there firsthand. That pretty much leaves only his mother's charity, Centerpoint for the homeless ... once again, I am underwhelmed.

Remember still he is only 24.  I think we should be looking more from him after his military training is complete.  Charles is the one who should be taking on more of the Queens duties.  William and Harry should be taking more from Charles.  He did say in an interview a while ago that he didn't want to jump in the deep end to quickly in regards to royal duties.  So until the queen retires, the fact he and Harry are doing a few royal duties is good enough for now.

The Queen isn't going to retire. But the thought of say ten to twenty more years of idling Harry and William doing almost nothing will not endear them to the public, especially William who is a future king. William isn't a baby anymore and should be stepping up to the plate more and doing things that just don't require him to sit and watch rugby games and pose for cameras.

Uhhggg, I agree with you Sandy and with Guysguy. I understand that he is in the army and therefore has limited time. But since he decided to take on another patronage, I think it should have been something non-sports related.

Why should he get involved with something he knows little about?  Especially since his time is somewhat limited now with his military training.  I think it is great he is getting involved at all.  No one is saying you must have "X" number of causes to be involved with by the time you are a certain age.  I think his choices are good ones.  He is a sports enthusiast so it is only natural he involve himself with things that he knows and loves.  Whats wrong with that?  Would you become patron or even vice patron of something you knew little about, also taking into account the amount of time you will have to spend is limited?  I don't think so.  You go with what you know until you can branch out and do more in another area when you have time to learn about it and actually do some good!

The way I see it, he is going to be damned in the public no matter what cause he chooses or doesn't choose.

Alright sure at least it's something, but like someone previously said, how hard would it to be for him to sit at a rugby game. I just think maybe he should get more involved w/ the children. And not Africa's children*i mean, they are needy tooo* but i think he should do something for the british or european kids. I just think he should do more than the bare minimum or something that gets him out of training to watch a game.

So what is the bare minimum? And I don't mean what he is doing now.  What in your opinion should he be doing for other charities?  Charity work is more than just lending your image.  It takes actual work and knowledge of what you are supporting.
So back to my question, what do you think he should be doing?

Kbella... the way you get to know something and become interested in something is to DO something and maybe getting more involved with something that is interesting but maybe he does not know very much about will help him be more involved.

I am glad that he is doing something, I am really. But i just wish that he would do two things...
1) get more involved with the charities he is already the patron of. I mean the biggest thing he has done is go the World Cup... oh how hard that must have been. Roll Eyes And he hasn't really done anything with Centerpoint which at least to me seems the charity that would be the most important or that could really do the most good.
2) if he does get anymore charities under his patronage I wish that he would do something that is not sports related.

Again, though I am really happy that he is doing something and involving himself more in royal duties. It will only make his future easier if he gets used to the work load now rather than them just being piled on all at once. So good for him. smile

You are right Varya that is the way to get to know something in the land of normal people.  William is not a normal person.  We expect him to get a career like everyone else, find a suitable wife and produce children like everyone else.  This is what normal people expect from other normal people, but when the person in question happens to be in line for a throne things are a little different.  We not only expect the normal expectations but also add to that being a positive role model under constant scrutiny, take on numerous charities and not just lend your likeness, but be good within them.  We also expect him to be less and less normal and take on more and more royal duties.
I think you are very correct Varya, he really does need to participate more in the charities he is involved with now.  I think as more time goes on, we will see him getting more involved, I hope.  I would much rather him take on less charities and spend more quality time with what he already has.  I am hopeful once he has completed his military training he will be able to find the balance that will become necessary later to do everything that is expected of him and then some.
Does that make any sense?  I am in a rambling mood

its good that he wants to be a part of something that he believes in and is passionate about.
i dont think he should give his name to any more charities, helpful or not.
id like to see him work more with the engagements he already has.

the guy is in the army, give him a break.
he really must have some free time.
whether or not hes spending it wisely none of us can really surely say.

id back him more with his new rugby patronage if i saw him working more with the tusk or his mothers old charity.
however for all we know he could be working on those privately and we havent heard about it.
ill reserve my judgement for now. once hes out of the army, ill be more harsh on the guy.

I agree that he has limited time Smarty and does need some spare time to himself... however, he hasn't spent any time at the patronages that he already has, so taking on another one won't really be any more time consuming.

what does being a "patronage" really means if you are a royal? Do they get 2 do any actual work....other than bringing media + public attention 2 the charity? I think we are expecting William 2 do what few other royals his age have done....like princess madeleine interning with UNICEF...being patronage for World Children something....or....andrea starting his 1st royal duty in philipine...touring youth juvi & shelter. I don't know what William's passion is, other than polo & hunting...so maybe...until we know what he really cares about....we will never see him doing anything hard
