Trudie, Beatrice is still technically in full time education - assuming she actually goes to Uni after her gap year.

No doubt it will be involved in taking care of families decimated by AIDS.  I'd be surprised if Harry let the focus be on education about this disease.  More likely it's about more money needed for medical care and for hospices needed for families who've lost their main means of support due to AIDS.

I am also unclear as to what the army would be doing there.

She is on her gap year. Even William and Harry did a bit of charity work during their gap year, but it appears that only Harry really takes it seriously.

I think Harry is doing a wonderful thing, and it sounds very exciting!  Harry is putting a lot of himself into this project.  What I like about it is that he was smart enough to find a way to combine the military and Sentebale.  Good for you Harry, this is a great idea!

In answer to what the army will actually be doing, it could take the form of building and repairing buildings.  This is sometimes undertaken by soldiers in places that have been destroyed in warzones.  Also some training in getting the confidence of local people abroad - again a vital skill in peacekeeping work.

It may even be that the army will at some point be involved in Zimbabwe if things go on as they are, and having troops who are familiar with a similar African region would help there.

Thank you   I was wondering about the possibility of benefits to GB.

I honestly do not understand where the supposed problem is? Obviously military activities of all sorts are funded by tax money. If they indeed go to Lesotho and help build up schools etc. what's bad about that? It's not like they'll build a house for Harry or whatever - it's for charity. Seriously those papers always have to try and find fault with everything.  37

The Press Association has picked this up so I guess it's confirmed. I love how involved Harry is with Sentabale and that he really takes his work with this charity seriously. I wonder though how much work they could do in only 3 weeks or will the project last longer and only Harry's involvment be limited to 3 weeks?

Quote
The three-week expedition will be led by an officer senior to Harry and the project has also secured a sponsorship deal with car makers Land Rover. The company will provide off-road vehicles to help with transport over the Kingdom's mountainous terrain.

Daily Mail Article

Quote
Prince Harry is taking a team of soldiers from his army regiment on a taxpayer-funded trip to work for his Aids charity in Africa this summer.

The 23-year-old royal and colleagues from the Blues & Royals will spend three weeks in the fly-blown kingdom of Lesotho on an official deployment building care facilities for local children.

Because usually, you first try to help your own country, where I'm sure many aids, poor, hungry UK people would need, including housing, before giving away to another country, talking about tax payers money.  Although I find PH cause with the Sentables fine, no problem with that, plus the Military explanation of using it like a combo of adventure exercise and doing good, plus if done it will have a mix of public and private sponsored expenses.   Does the public funding part enter in parliament for discusion/approval ? Or, I'm not sure the article mentiones it as a given already.

Does the British army help the British people? Charity begins at home first. What could they be doing in Britain??? I think it is admirable that he is continueing on with his charities, but are the taxpayers really paying for this, or do the papers have it wrong again???

With all due respect to Harry what he's doing in Africa is incredibly admirable, and I respect him for it. However Britain has big problems these days, he should use our money to address those problems. I'm not surprised he's shunning Britain when he thinks it's 'rubbish'  dry Well actually he uses stronger words than 'rubbish' but I can't write them!

Most "westernized" nations have missions like this all over the world, thus neglecting problems in their own country.

"Harry's really excited. He's itching to get out of Britain and be back with the boys again. His regiment have to train somewhere and this way they do some real good at the same time. Getting the sponsorship from Land Rover clinched the deal

Harry wants to be with his lads, and with the money from Land Rover, what better way for him do this and at the
same time do a short stint of charity work.
