yep! Harry made the opening speech at the conference today! the press was calling it his first speech though. i think they are right....i cant remember Harry ever giving a speech in public before. dont tell me i've forgotten something! I think you can call his speech at his mother's memorial his first public speech, unless there was something else before that? ROYALS' WELSH CHARM OFFENSIVE SPARKS FRESH INVESTITURE FEARShttp://cambriamagazine.blogspot.com/2008/06/royals-welsh-charm-offensive-sparks.htmlSo it seems the royal family has been trying the charm offensive on the Welsh and it hasn't worked so good so far. 1st Prince Charles buys a rather modest farmhouse, but in a strategic location -- barely a ripple. Then poor Wills gets booed at some Welsh sports thingy. So as a last resort they bring in the Big Gun, in the form of HRH Prince Harry of Wales, and ya! It seems to be working again.

What a great effort by Harry and so at ease...PW doesn't seem at ease but I am sure he has to be the "serious" one since he will inherit the crown. It comes naturally for Harry! WELL DONE, HARRY!

^ I agree. I worry about them doing these walkabouts, for security reasons. When you are this much at ease and enjoying yourself, sometimes you let your guard and awareness down. Dangerous for these lads.

Harry is doing really well to prove to the public that he is more than just a party boy. His activities this year would have been watched with interest and I really think it could work to his advantage. His natural approach to members of the public and the genuine warmth about him is fantastic and if he carries on like this by the end of the year people will be singing his praises. I've noticed that the view on him is changing since he came back from Afghanistan, it is much more positive, and his continued work with charities and various public engagement will allowed people see the real Harry and not the fictional party boy that has been created in the media. It is working and the view on him is changing. I've always thought that the media view on Harry is totally wrong and I think Harry's activities this year will allow people to see him for who he really is. The tide really is changing. Harry and Chelsy are getting more praise then they used to whereas the opposite now seems to be happening for Wills and Kate. I think that if this continues then the palace are going to need to do something with William because at the minute he is in danger of losing his golden boy crown to his younger brother. The press can promote William and Kate, and bring down Harry and Chelsy as much as they like but actions speak louder then words. The public see action with Harry and Chelsy. Harry seems to want to be involved in everything and seems to want to use his position to the advantage of other people i.e. aids victims. Chelsy wants to study and make use of her life. People can see that whereas they can't with William and Kate, especially Kate. William has been trying to restore his image with various engagements and charity but his other actions are ruining it for him i.e. the RAF episode and the fact he's been with the same girl for 5 years with not a wedding in sight. Now everything he does is seen as publicity stunt and it isn't seen as genuine whereas everything Harry does is. Because Harry used his initiative and went to Afghanistan to do his bit and since he's been back in UK he wants to get stuck in to charity work. Plus when Harry does something he acts like he genuinely wants to be there whereas William doesn't. Someone in another thread wondered whether the palace may be wanting to offload Kate in order to start reworking William's image so that he too, like Harry, can enjoy a popularity boost. They feel that Kate has become a liability and is weighing William down so part of reason for her negative press is because they want to get rid of her so that they can help Wills restore his public image and they feel that Kate won't help. If the palace are planning to revamp William's image it's about time they did something because people are failing to be impressed by him this year. At the minute it looks like it's going to be Harry's year and unless the palace can turn William around Harry will become the popular one. It would be better for the Royal family if both princes were popular and had a positive public image instead of one gaining all the glory while the other is constantly criticised by those watching him. They need to start working on it now because two princes with good reputations is better than one and hopefully it'll save the monarchy for another century at least. At the minute I continue to be impressed by Harry's efforts and may it continue so that people can see him for who he truly is and not a party prince. Well done, Harry.

LIW Harry does seem to look better in the eyes of the public than his older brother. I agree when the public sees positive action by a member of the RF it speaks louder than words, than rather what the press have to say. I also think Harry & Chelsy looks more fresher in the eyes of the public than the William & Kate one its been dragged on for awhile.

Lady in Waiting: I beg to defer on the subject of William and Kate. It seems that some are under the misconception that she is weighing him down. The Problem is HE IS THE DITHERING FOOL. That girl is in the unenviable position if she gets a job hounded by the press Don't get a job hounded by the press. He obviously has no desire to further his charity work since last month he did a few engagements back to back and desperately needed a vacation. That's Kate's Fault?. Harry at the moment is the shining star and the reason being he has been involved in real charity work since his gap year and unlike his brother started a charity is very committed to his work as a soldier and patron of his charities. Chelsy is an extremely intelligent young woman and she and Harry do not play the games of William and Kate. William it seems calls the shots in that relationship screaming I need a vacation and Kate goes along and the stunt with the helicopter at her families home well you don't need to be a scientist to see that was his territorial claim. Harry is the best asset the family has I just hope they have the good sense to support him and let him get on with his good work. As I have said before I think he is the real future of the monarchy.

I hadn't thought of it that way, but ya sure, what else could it be. Ole Willie and his territorial pissings. As I have said before I think Harry is the real future of the monarchy. Yup, probably so.

this is an interesting article....i wasn't sure where to put it since it mentions so many royals. but this is the fellow who was in charge of organizing Harry's visit to Cardiff and he talks a lot about Harry so i thought i'd put it here. Sir Norman: by royal appointment--icWales“Meeting him now, it is hard to connect this big strapping lad with the little boy I used to throw up into the air when he came into the house all those years ago.
“But both of them remind me of Diana. William looks very much like her of course, and Harry, in fact both of them, have that concern for others that she had. ” aww!
