That's possible Ursula.  Personally I am praying that the suits at the Palace arranged it.

That BP arranged the deferral?  If so, how would that benefit her or anyone else?

I'm not saying that BP arranged the deferral, what I said was that I prayed it was them.  No it would not benefit her, but hopefully it would put enough distance between her and Harry to benefit the monarchy and above all him.

It's an option.

MK, so then that would be 3 gap years. Incredible! 1 after highschool, 1 after South Africa, and another now.  What a smarty - her studying makes her look occupied.

She did not have a gap year after highschool. She had a few months between her Uni in SA and Leeds. Thats it.

It's not what she will do, it's the fact that she opted to take one by deferring.  It was a choice, not a requirement.

I Understand that. However there has been forums members saying what she will do on her gap year. She will party and be a lay out.
What if she chooses to do some charity work. What if she does some pro bono?

We have no idea what she is going to do. Please wait to see which before the bashing starts.

I can't say that I'm surprised that she took this time off because she is a fun loving girl. But hey, I would have done the same, I've been studying a whole lot and could use a break.   wacko

I guess we'll have to wait and see what she does.  So far, the only thing they've mentioned is her plans to travel.

MK, this article states she took her final exams in Nov 2006. As we all know, she started Leeds in Sept 2007. That's nearly a year... wannabe is correct.

I think she will do some pro bono work during her gap year -- A&O highly encourages it and I think Chelsy is smart enough to understand that her superiors at A&O won't be too impressed if she spends the year getting drunk on beaches all over Asia and Australia.

I just can't imagine working that hard to get a Law degree and then doing nothing with it.  My brother's girlfriend wants to go to school to get a fashion degree. I said to her 'So you want to work in the fashion industry?' and she said 'No I want to learn to dress myself better.'  Now that's wasting a degree.

^ LOL!!! Sorry if I'm not being politically correct here but I do think fashion degress and the like aren't exactly the most challenging or best of degrees to get. Just my opinion of course.

Vivienne, I actually think mousie_kins was referring to Chelsy's gap year after high school. The new school year in SA starts in January so Chelsy had a few months after high school finished in the UK in June while she was waiting for her undergrad degree courses to start. Reasonable enough, I guess. What would one expect her to do if she had to wait for her courses to start? It was too long a period to get a job after all.

About the year after univerisity...I wish I could have one but I'm gonna have to find myself a job to start making a dent in those student loans asap. Of course, she has the privilege to do so so she probably thought she would relax after her course. One year might have been too much but she did do a double major and that is a LOT of work (not making excuses...just reasoning things out). The whole take-a-yea-off-after-your-degree is becoming increasingly popular where I'm from through a combination of a saturated job market and some very indulgent parents who aren't anywhere near as wealthy as the Davys.

And the 'gap year' after her postgrad degree; well if what I've read is correct then it's not just her own inclinations that led to that. A&O and the state of the economy are also factors in her making that decision. Who knows? It may not actually be a whole year or she may get some pro bono work done in between. I sure hope so.

About CD working, didn't she have an internship at a PR firm during uni and didn't she also do some modelling for Country Life magazine wen she was in high school.

Me too, but I understand she has taken two; 1 right after highschool and the 2nd one after graduating from Uni in South Africa, and supposedly will/or is already taking a 3rd one.

I love traveling.  laugh

A question? Did Chelsy Davy drop out of the LPC which started this past Sept. 2009 and should end about end of May 2010/beginning of June 2010? she's already in her travels? which the later I still doubt and will start traveling from summer 2010 till summer 2011.

^^ I think so too, wannabe...

I think Alixx is right, MK. Chelsy was in Country Life.

Regarding the gap between Stowe and UCT, I don't know for sure but I think we can work it out logically. Doesn't the UK school year end in May/June? If UCT ends in Nov, then they probably only break for 3 months so they start again in Feb... So that would give her 6 months off at the least -- but not a full year.

And those vacation placements she did at Farrars and A&O are pretty much mandatory if one hopes to get a trainee contract, aren't they? The placements are only one week long so it's not a massive time investment. My guess is that no one gets a trainee contract on contacts alone and the applicant is expected to put in a little face time at the firm just to ensure they are not going to be a complete disaster which the law firm is then stuck with (per the contract) for three years...

^ Lol! It happens to every singe once of us at one point or the other MK. ^_^

So if she did work for Country Life, even if it was only once, did an internship in a PR Firm (anyone have a link to that?) and did two law internships (regardless of them being mandatory or 'encouraged'), she still has something to her name, doesn't she?

From reading some of the posts in various threads, I thought she hadn't done a day's work in her life. So three-four part-time jobs, a double undergraduate degree and a postgrad degree? Not exemplary by certain persons' standards admittedly but no couch potato either...right?
She's done a lot more than many perosns I know at that age and not a single one of them has a fraction of the Davy's wealth, so it would be nice to cut the girl some slack.

if Chelsy had dropped out i'm sure we'd have heard about it.  she's been on her Christmas break though which is where i'm guessing the tabs are getting her current "traveling" from.

anyway imho it's highly doubtful she has dropped out because i doubt if A&O would be taking her on with her degree incomplete.  no degree, no A&O, no deferment.

What the article says about the supposed gap year actually makes no sense, seeing as it says she would've start this past September but is instead starting this coming September (2010). IF she is taking the gap year, that's inaccurate. She started the LPC this past September, and would have originally began working in September 2010. Whether she does or not is yet to be seen.

Also, how on earth can we blame her for the fact that semesters in England and South Africa are arranged differently, and therefore she couldn't start immediately? Not that that's really on topic, but my god! That surely isn't her fault, is it? Even here there's three months between high school graduation and college starting. It's called summer break. Am I to be blamed for that? No! So why blame Chelsy for something that was completely and totally beyond her control?

SJB, she decided at that time to holiday for 10 months. That's all.
